Popup Menu Test
Current Button
Revised Button
Observations
- VoiceOver (Maverick) in Safari handles both buttons equally well. It announces the first button with its hidden inner label ("Click Button 1""), followed by "Popup button". If I press Enter, the first option in the menu has focus. VoiceOver announces "Menu item, Menu, three items".
- NVDA 2014.3 in IE11: With the Current button, NVDA announces the inner label, followed by all three options in the submenu (even though the latter are hidden). If I press Enter, the first option in the menu has focus and NVDA reads "Option 1". I can then tab between options. However, I can't down arrow through options - that simply scrolls the screen. With the revised button, NVDA simply announces the hidden inner label plus "Submenu", which makes more sense than the current button. Otherwise the behavior is the same.
- NVDA 2014.3 in Firefox 31: With the Current button, NVDA reads "Application Click Button 1 menu button submenu". With the Revised button, NVDA reads "Menu button submenu Click Button 2" - the same information as the current button minus "Application", and in a different sequence.
- JAWS 15 in Firefox 31: With the Current button, JAWS "Click Button 1 button menu. Press space to activate the menu, then navigate with arrow keys (these instructions don't work).
